A New Curate for Thorpe

The diocese’s new deacons were celebrated at Charterhouse School Chapel on Sunday, 3 July, as Bishop Andrew performed two Petertide ordination ceremonies, witnessed by an impressive number of familyand friends gathered at the renowned independent school near Godalming. A total of 12 new deacons were ordained, and St Mary’s in Thorpe later in the day happily welcomed their new Curate, the Revd Gerard Mee, with a shared lunch and celebrations. We wish Fr Gerard every blessing in his new ministry.

Gerard’s testimony: “At the age of seven I asked my Sunday school teacher, ‘Why are we always talking about Jesus…? Why can’t we have some stories about Spiderman?’. The response, “Jesus is a very special person, who we can never know too much about”, never left me, so over the next 36 years I prayed that God would show me how I might share with others just how important a person Jesus is. I joined the service team at a young age and this gave me a glimpse of the joy and privilege that a priest has in creating that moment when we are all lovingly invited to encounter the risen Lord Jesus in the breaking of bread and wine.” Lots of photos on the Diocesan website:.
