Grace Café at Black Cherry Fair – Picture ReviewThis year the Churches in Chertsey decided to run a cafe at Black Cherry Fair where everything was free. They served 1000 drinks and nearly 1000 pieces of delicious cake, and painted the faces of 300 children - all for free. Everyone loved the idea and many have asked since the fair: “Why did you do it?”. The simple answer is love. There was no “hard selling”, no preaching, nothing to sign up to and no agenda except to offer a gift to the community. One of the hardest jobs of a Christian minister is addressing the misconceptions about the Christian faith that have come about as a result of bad portrayals of Christians in the media and bad presentation of what it means to be a Christian by some of our fellow believers (although always done with the best of intentions). The Grace Cafe showed a glimpse of the reality and hopefully helped to show that Christianity is relevant in our community today. – by Clive Beazley-Long |
