A message from Samantha: “At the Foodbank we are blessed to be able to engage with many different people - spreading the word of what we are doing here in our Borough to support our local community, and I am delighted to announce that we have some additional opportunities to spread that word a little farther, and collect in food at the same time!
We are holding Christmas food collections, in conjunction with Tesco's in Addlestone and Egham, on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 November between 9am and 5pm, with Tesco staff helping us by manning our stands between 5pm, when we go home, and 10pm on each evening, plus manning our stand all day Sunday for us, too!
We are really keen to ensure enough volunteers come forward to help us gather in the food that will restock our shelves, making sure we have sufficient supplies for the first few months of 2014. In addition, having these collections and being present at the stores also highlights the fact that there is a need, here in our own neighbourhood, to those who are not aware of the Runnymede Foodbank and the work being carried out.
Volunteering for this type of collection day is very easy: basic guidance is provided, and you will not be on your own! We simply hand shoppers a pre-printed shopping list as they enter the store, asking if they would be prepared to buy an extra item from our list, and drop it into our trolley on their way out of the store. People are very generous, and are happy to help us when they know it is for local people in crisis, and we are not asking them for money!
I need volunteers to offer just 2 hours of their time for the rota as follows; 9-11am, 11-1pm, 1-3pm,
3-5pm.
We are looking for three volunteers for each time slot at Egham, and at least two at Tesco’s in Addlestone so please consider whether you can help us reach those numbers, and feel great about volunteering in this Christmas period.”
