Deaneries: Mission or Mystery

Plans for the 2014 National Deaneries Network Conference are moving ahead. Under the title “Shaping up for Mission…the challenge for Deaneries”, the conference will focus on exploring and sharing ways in which Deaneries can support and lead mission, engagement with the community, and growth initiatives.
The 2013 survey of lay chairs paints a picture of dynamic and productive deaneries most of which take a lead in mission locally and provide a valuable source of support to their parishes. They are, however, frustrated that, through lack of recognition of the potential, they can't do more. Deaneries can still be a mystery to people even though the survey shows how active many are. Deaneries must be de-mystified, and the potential unlocked in the interests of achieving the Church's mission.
The Conference features a host of interesting topics and speakers – these are just some:
o    Using statistics to shape mission efforts - Dr Bev Botting, Head of Research and Statistic for Archbishops’ Council
o    Why bother with a communications strategy – getting the message across - Neill Harvey-Smith, The Director of Communications for the Diocese of Lichfield
o    Making the most of outreach opportunities using the Pilgrim course
o    Serving those on the Financial Margins - The Place of Credit Unions in a Deanery strategy to serve the community - David Barclay, Church Credit Champions network
The Conference will take place from 3rd to 5th October at the Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick. Booking form available via This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
