Bishop Christopher to retire

The Bishop of Guildford, the Rt Revd Christopher Hill, announced on 28th May that his retirement has been accepted by The Queen after nine years in the role.
Although he will be ceasing diocesan duties and additional commitments (apart from a planned Walk of Prayer) in September, he will still be involved with his national commitments and meetings that are already in the diary, including House of Bishops and General Synod. All these meetings, he will take part in as Bishop of Guildford.
The Bishop of Dorking, the Rt Revd Ian Brackley, will lead the diocese while a successor is selected. Bishop Ian has experience in this capacity, having led the Diocese of Portsmouth during its vacancy between 2009-10. Ian has been Bishop of Dorking since 1996.
