“Kingdom Quest” Holiday Club in Egham (with pictures!)

“Kingdom Quest” ran for four mornings in August, followed by a special holiday club service with a medieval banquet for all involved or attending, together with their parents and relatives. A total of 91 children were registered, many not of the church family, with an average daily attendance of 78. In addition, encouragement for “helpers” attracted a large group of church members aged 12 to over 80, including teenagers who do not presently attend St John’s but were known from their Sunday Club days.
“Kingdom Quest” was supported financially by local businesses as well as a Runnymede Deanery Growth Fund grant and several donation pots for parents who wanted to contribute. All these donations paid for the craft materials, sports equipment and church decorations used, and for the medieval banquet.
Holiday clubs are excellent for both, outreach and support for the church family. “Kingdom Quest” provided a way for the whole congregation to get involved, using a variety of skills and gifts. It brought people together across the different congregations and gave teenagers a meaningful opportunity to learn about playing a valuable part in church life.
In the past, Egham ran large holiday clubs with over 100 children attending but had to have a break for three years during the construction of the Easter Centre and is still in the rebuilding phase. With all the positive reports from parents and those attending “Kingdom Quest”, an increase in numbers and farther reach into the local community are expected for 2020. Many of the families attending have enquired about other activities at St John’s as well, such as the Sustain Group for families with additional needs and regular Sunday activities. A follow-up event, a Bubble Praise Party with Doug Horley, was held in October.
