(soon to be re-named Runnymede Foodbank)
Redundancy, illness, debt, or even a family breakdown can all lead to a crisis, where finding the next meal can be a desperate problem. Addlestone Foodbank works with many frontline agencies to reach those in need within our community.
If individuals or families find themselves in crisis, for any reason, their support worker/agency can assess their situation and if found eligible they can be provided with a red voucher which is exchanged for three days’ worth of food at our centres in Addlestone or Englefield Green.
Vouchers are provided through a number of agencies, eg Citizens Advice Bureau, Housing Department, Probation Services, Your Sanctuary, Church pastoral teams, Age UK, local Health Visitors and home school link workers, among others. Referrals can also be made through JobcentrePlus for those experiencing benefit delays or changes.
Addlestone Foodbank is headed up by Beacon church, and supported by a growing number of Runnymede churches. Whilst we are a Christian organisation we serve people of all faith groups and beliefs, or none. We are passionate about inclusion and being non-judgemental is central to what we do. We believe that everyone has the right to have food on their plate, dignity, skills, a chance to work and hope for the future.
We are currently praying for other local churches to join with us in food collection, fund raising, voucher holding and volunteering opportunities, to help those in our communities in crisis.
