Fayres and Fancy Dress in Thorpe

This month we have lots of photos and articles to share from events in June and July – we hope you’ll enjoy reading about a selection of activities in your fellow churches starting with St Mary's where they've been busy engaging with Thorpe community these last two months. The “Austrian Extravaganza” included an afternoon sing-along showing of 'The Sound of Music' with Austrian coffee house in the interval and an evening screening of “The Making of 'The Sound of Music'” followed by an Austrian Supper. Many came dressed up for the occasion and had great fun singing, drinking bubblies or beer and sampling all kinds of amazing delicacies. Next year's dress up event is already in the planning!

A fortnight later, St Mary’s supported the Magna Carta Day in Egham with a tombola and great prizes in a Grand Draw, which was continued only a week later at their own Summer Fair when the churchyard

and Vicarage garden came alive with activity. Many gazebos shading stall holders and visitors from the lovely sunshine made a colourful backdrop for the Egham Band (before their stint at the Englefield Green Fair!), and there were cakes, burgers, fruit, fine clothes, crafts and many other things to buy, children squealing happily in the large shaded play area, and a coconut shy and crockery smashing providing resounding fun for all ages, no to forget the “cheesy joke” selection from MC Father Damian.

They also supported Thorpe School Summer Fair with a new heritage banner and team explaining something of the history of St Mary’s Church, and joined in The White Lodge’s 2018 fundraiser called “Wear to Show You Care” by dedicating a weekend (Saturday morning Café Church and Sunday services) to coming dressed in red and white (the colours of the White Lodge logo) and offering red ribbon pins for a £1 donation.
