Chertsey’s Churches united at the Black Cherry Fair

On Saturday, 9 July, the Chertsey Churches St Peter’s, St Anne’s and The Beacon, joined together in a marquee on the Abbeyfields to operate “The Welcome Café”. The café was run by volunteers from all three churches, serving drinks and homemade cakes donated by church members. From 10am until the end of the afternoon there was a constant stream of visitors, numbering towards 500 people. There was an abundant supply of wonderful cakes, and children enjoyed playing the hook-a-fish game where each received a Christian themed prize. Visitors to the café enjoyed live music and singing, provided by members of St Peter’s Church. A number of prayer requests were posted, and there were many good conversations. The churches had wanted to reach out to the wider community in Chertsey and felt that the day had been an amazing success. In addition over £400 was raised and donated to The White Lodge Centre in Chertsey.
